Do you go with your gut feeling or hope for the best or take out a possible threat, before they become a threat? Even if it is the illusion of safety. This book narration was genius! She continues to be my favorite and this book is exactly why. I forgot all about that and grabbed this book, but when I started reading it I remembered what the reviews said and started waiting for it to get terrible. I can not wait until the next book in the series comes out. But then everything flipped and I was all wrong. I know, how could I be timidly excited? Her words create a post-apocalyptic world so incredibly vivid it's almost scary. Some of it is fairly interesting and some are dragging on snoresville.
Plummer did the female voices and the Daniels brought the male voices to life. The writing is good, with a strong character in Sylvie, and an interesting character in Eric. They have to find safe food and water all while avoiding the ever increasing population of zombies. But when the two are trapped in a hospital during the last gasp of a dying city, alone time is no longer an option. I have cringed at some of the voices used when women try to do men's voices and visa versa.
Another thing that I truly loved was that the women weren't hateful to each other. Da ist es gut, dass er schon Freunde gefunden hat, die ihm im Kampf gegen die dunklen Mächte zur Seite stehen. These are my favorite apocalyptic books so far, and I've read so many as it's one of my favorite genres. This book had me hooked from the very beginning. That being said, I had no issues with any of the voices that either narrator used and thought that they both brought a lot of emotion to the story.
These series remind me so much of The Walking Dead which I love because even though it is obviously about zombies it is also about the characters and how they grow and interact with each other. But somehow this rag tag group makes it work. Sarah Lyons Fleming's books are always bumped to the top of my to-be-read list upon release. Fleming is one of my all time favorite authors that I just happened to stumble upon recently and I look forward to reading more of this series. Situations change and the group has to adjust. This was a good start and I really want to continue so I can see what happens to them and how this would end. You have to read both series.
Her books flow organically, feeding details as it goes. First of all, I did read and totally loved the first series and was timidly excited for this series. Or maybe its just been a while since I read those books, which I loved. I don't know how this book doesn't have waayyyyy more 5 star reviews. She has the right amounts of everything in her books. The initial outbreak, people trapped in a highly contagious area ie.
This book is the second in the City Series, which follows a group of survivors in New York city. I haven't read that other series, so I have no idea how good or bad it is. I find myself invested in the story because it is easy to follow and has just enough twists to make me grin in devilish delight. In this sister series, she's done it again, and I just binged the first 2 books and know I'll have a book hangover now. Add in the less-than-sociable new neighbors only blocks away, and the hunt for sustenance has come to feel more like a race than a ramble. Eric Forrest will do whatever it takes to get into the dead city for his sister, including ending up dead himself.
Fleming creates a deep vivid world you get lost in. I was a little worried when the word-of-the-day calendar came up. I laughed out loud and I cried hard. Eric is patient but he's not perfect. Part of the fun of a close call is having someone with whom to laugh it off. I do love that Sarah Lyons Fleming writes so beautifully that amongst the horrors, there is still joy. This book is the second in the City Series, which follows a group of survivors in New York city.
Their sorrow is my Wow. The bouncing back and forth between points of view isn't overly done and is timed well with the plot. Some personalities you never would have thought to last 5 mins in a zombie apocalypse. This was a great story. The author has an agreement with Amazon to offer her books through the Kindle Unlimited program.
